Bid/ask spread is essentially the difference in price between the highest price that a buyer is willing to pay for an asset and the lowest price for which a seller is willing to sell it. The bid/ask spread is the difference between the price at which a bank or market maker will sell (ask or offer) and the price at which a market-maker will buy (bid) from a wholesale customer. For example, if the bid price is 1.2500 and the ask price is 1.2510 then the "bid-ask spread" is 0.0010. The size of the spread from one bank to another will differ mainly because of the difference in liquidity of each bank.
